Does Debating Have to Be Abusive - To Be Effective ?
by flipper inmy wife and i were having an interesting discussion about some of the debates that take place on the board here .
now, granted most people , i feel upwards of 90 % on the board maybe higher try to be respectful in their debates or discussions on topics.
i think we all had enough bashing in the witness organization.

Should law enforcement agencies stop using tasers?
by Gopher inon tuesday, a 29-year-old on his way to pick up his parents at the local airport became involved in an automobile accident.
when police arrived he became uncooperative and so they stunned him with a taser gun.
now he's dead.. there have been other recent reported deaths associated with the use of a taser.

I really think it's time for all law enforcement officials to vent their anger against all of us trouble making US citizens by tazering us whenever the whim strikes them. I wouldn't restrict it to tazers alone, however- law enforcement officers, who we all know are better than the rest of us, should be allowed to randomly taze or whip, beat or stop us for any reason. I'm sure the Founding Fathers would agree wholeheartedly!
BA- Sarcastic.

Thomas Paine "Age of Reason"
by BurnTheShips inon another thread purporting to start a discussion of this work, some suggested that it be restarted in a new thread, as the consideration there had begun in a polluted way and had only stayed at that level.
since things poorly begun usually end worse, i am starting the thread as some have requested.
i am currently beginning to read age of reason, and will return to it from time to time as time itself allows.

It's nice to see that someone on JWD has the ability to start a subject in a kind and inviting way. Your comments on Paine's treatise are spot on, Burn. It's commendable that for the most part (minus the little ankle biters, Asleep&Witless and quirkyleftbrain) the thread is inviting intelligent discussion and comment. He clearly was a man of faith who simply was pointing out how Christianity had been hijacked by men for their own purposes, which is still the case today, imo.
I've always enjoyed Paine's writings, and as time permits I'll add my two cents as well.

Moon Landings - Real or Fake?
by Black Man ini've always wondered about this, especially recently.
i've always contended that they were real and ignored the conspiracy theories.
but if they were real, why hasn't nasa been able to send a man to the moon since the 1970s?
-
Brother Apostate
funny isn't it, except that you missed the entire point. Helium 3 in the moon samples alone proves that they did land on the moon.
Wrong. You must have missed this excerpt from the same article:
"Earth's inventories of Helium 3 are very low"
So having a sample of Helium 3 proves nothing, it exists on Earth as well.
Time to eviscerate the bloated carcass of NASA and privatize.
BA- Govmint's got no bidness taxin' US citizens for such ventures.

ya mean like discovery of non-radioactive Helium 3 where couple of tons can produce energy needed for the entire year of energy hungry country such as US of A. Not to mention that there's enough of it to mine it for many generations to come and it is non-polluting ...
Lol, some of us can read and think.
Excerpt from first article:
Even so, the capital needed to support such a venture could amount to about $10-15 billion over a 15-year period.
"Is $15 billion an unreasonable capital requirement on the part of the private sector? Probably not," he said, citing the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline and the Eurotunnel as private projects that cost a similar amount of money. "We're talking about a scale of investment that is not outside the scale of what has already happened."Lol, the two examples cited were rife with cost overuns, far exceeding the forecasted cost, not to mention the cost of maintenance and replacement. The Alaska Oil pipeline is due for wholesale relacement, as it was designed for a 20 year shelf life, and maintenance costs are skyrocketing because it's replacement is already ten years past due As for the Chunnel, similar story.
Also, the moon is known to be a major influence on Earth's tides, so screwing with it is not a wise step for human life, or any of Earth's life for that matter.
On top of which we have the cost of running the bloated carcass of NASA for these past decades being dwarfed by it's typically runaway costs when running any and all of it's programs:
http://www.spaceprojects.com/iss/
In conclusion, as of the Summer of 2000 the cost estimates for the U.S.A.'s share of the lone remaining space station were around $100 billion. This figure is broken down as follows:
INITIAL DESIGN PAPERWORK -- $10 billion
HARDWARE -- $25 billion
SHUTTLE SERVICING COSTS -- $20 billion
MAINTENANCE -- $41 billion
YEAR 2001 COST OVERRUN (disclosed immediately AFTER the presidential election of 2000): $5 billion.ROFLMAO@allowing NASA to continue it's waste of taxpayers money- what a frikkin' joke.
What a waste of resources that could feed the hungry, clothe and shelter the poor and needy!
Screw NASA- time to stop the spending of taxpayer money on that bureacratic waste of an agency!
MORE EGREGIOUS NASA COST OVERRUNS:
MORE ON NASA WASTE OF MONEY:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=NASA+spending+decades&btnG=Search
NASA has blown TRILLIONS of US taxpayer dollars to provide just what exactly? Anything even remotely worth the expenditures? Nope, nada, zilch, zero.
Privatize it, I say.
BA- My two pence.

Can't be absolutely proven one way or the other.
Either way, it was a huge waste of money that could have accomplished something way better for humanity.
NASA is for the most part a huge burden to taxpayers and should be scrapped.
BA- Skeptic.

FemaleThinking?
by R.Crusoe ini have often heard women speak about men who think with their meat and two veg!.
it is as if they lay claim to a theory that all male agendas form as thoughts which mainly travel down the cerabal cortex and out through the zipper before coming to life in the real world.. but how do men think women think?.
.

Brother Apostate
I have a question about men thinking from below the waist- Most men would be insulted when women say that is how all men think and even consider it a sexist remark. While I agree all men do not think first from below the waist then why do men use that very argument when they think wife, lover, daughter, female they love wears something they consider provocative, hang out with a guy as a friend, be friendly to some man who was friendly with them, etc.... The man's argument for not doing any of the above is 'I'm a guy, I know how they think' meaning they are all after one thing or have bad motives. Try to point out that maybe this fella is more noble than you and doesn't think from below the waist and it does not go over well as you can imagine.
Sounds like a textbook case of insecurity and lack of trust.
Unless the clothing isn't appropriate for the venue, that is.
BA- Trust is the key.
